Facilitator

Hi everybody! My name is Ana and this week I have been the facilitator of my group. Dispite the fact that it´s difiult to get all the members of the group together, last week we were able to meet up and work on the second practice of this subject.
First of all, we decided what each one of us had to do. Three of us started to look for data of the tree different proyections (Mercator´s proyection, Azimutal´s proyection and Robinson´s proyection). We had to choose two countries, one within Europe and the other outside, so between all of us we decided to chose Spain and Argentina. Two members of the group were the ones in charge of collecting information about the different perspectives of Argentina and Spain in each of the three proyections. Of the three remaining, one searched the meaning of treasure hunt; the other member explained why TV could distort the vision of people. Moreover, she added an interview; finally, the last one put together all the information in a power point.
As a facilitator of the group I have to say that we work good as a group. Every week it is getting easier to work as a team because we can correct our previous mistakes. We have realized that companionship is indispensable and therefore we always try to help one another in order to obtain a good and complete work. In spite of this, I think everything can always be improved.
Good night guys and see you next week!! xxxxxx

Ana  Lorente Ruiz :)

#Translator, our second week.

Hello there, I'm Blanca and this week I am the translator. This experience is very useful from my point of view because of the amount of vocabulary I am learning. I’d like to show you 5 terms I’ve found interesting this week:

DISTORTION:  is the alteration of the original form or the state of being twisted out of normal shape.

(References: http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/distortion)

TREASURE HUNT: It is a game in which players follow some clues in order to find a prize or more than one. It is normally designed for kids, they have to try to find the hidden thing by clues.

(References: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/treasure+hunt)

MEDIA: The different means of mass communication (well known as mass media) such as: the TV, the radio or even the press.

(References: http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/media)

CARTOGRAPHIC PROJECTION: a representation of the globe or celestial sphere or part of it on a flat map, using a grid of lines of latitude and longitude. One example could be mercator one.

(References: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Cartographic%20projection)

MAP PROJECTION: A projection of the globe into a flat map using a grid of lines of latitude and longitude. There are different types pf projections such as: conformal one or conic

#journalist Our second week in group, our feelings..

Hello guys, my name is Alba and this week I have been the journalist of the Umpalumpas group. This role seemed to me something very interesting because I like writing and journalism.

This week we have to do a work about Treasure Hunt and medias. In this activity, we had to do a sample of treasure hunt and select the best projection of the world map and, finally, we had to choose a media which distorted the reality. For this activity, the group of umpalumpas met some days. Here I post some kind of agenda about how we organized the work for this week

 Tuesday 17th.

On tuesday, Umpalumpas group met to start working in Treasure Hunt. We met in Yolanda and Cristina's house and we divided the work in subgroups. Cristina and Maria searched information about the media and they finally chose TV. On the other hand, Manu and Blanca searched a sample of treasure hunt and they chose the US westward expansion. Finally Mari Cruz, Yolanda, Ana and me worked in the Mercator, Robinson and Azimuthal projections.
This day we found all the information required to start to doing the exposition in a power point.

Thursday 1th.

Despite having the information we needed to represented it in a Power Point so we have to met again to do it and to organized how the star would do the exposition on Monday. That afternoon we didn't spend too much time because we only search the images to the Power point and organized with Mari Cruz ( the star) how she had to do the exposition.

Monday 23rd .

Monday was the day of the exposition and our star was so nervous but she had learnt the content very good so we knew that she would do it well. To start the class, Linda explained that the exposition had to be divided in three  groups formed by other three groups, and we had to mixed our expositions and did it togheter.

(The three starts)

The exposition was difficult because we had to mix in a few minutes all the content and we had to agree but we got it with success. Besides, here is the power point which we did to our first presentation.

<iframe src="//www.slideshare.net/slideshow/embed_code/45086302" width="476" height="400" frameborder="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>
Another week again, the group has remained united and we helped each other. We worked great together and this was reflected in the result.

This week we would like to recomend the blog of our classmates http://keepcalmandkeeporganized.blogspot.com.es/ because we worked very good with them and their blog is well organized and we like it too much!!
Outside the university, I would like to recomend http://www.dulceida.com/# because I love fashion and I find this blog helpful to follow low cost fashion.
Bye bye Bloggers, see you the next week with other role!!! Alba Ruiz López.

#Analyst

Hi bloggers!, my name is Yolanda and I am the analyst of the week in the Treasure Hunt work.

First I have to say that the best part of the activity was doing the power point and searching for information because we have learnt so much projections and different points of view about one aspect. We could understand that one task could be explained by different ways but some of these ways are wrong. Besides, we have learnt better to organize the work that we have to do and work together to achieve an efficient work.

The worse part of the activity was finding the projections and understanding them, for example, when we were looking for Robinson´s projections we found a lot of authors called Robinson so we had problems to found the right one.

On the one hand, the best moment of the week was meeting, because when we divided the work, we work with a good and nice work environment.
On the other hand, the worse thing in the group was organize the days that we had to work at the week, because some of us didn´t agree about the days because of extracurricular activities.
We have learnt so many things this week, we have improved our exposition and we think that this exposition is better than the other about T-PACK, because we have learnt about the things that we mustn´t do.

We need to conserve the good environment in the group and the dynamic of the work the following weeks but also we think that we have to improve the quality of the tasks by learning more things the next weeks.

We have to say that this content about Treasure hunt is related to all the things that we have learnt during our life and we always think that are the correct things but in reality not.
This content is related our degree because we are going to explained children some tasks or activities that they aren´t reliable and meaningful and teacher must know these things.

Finally we have to add that this content have social connections because the distortion in the reality is an aspect that we could see every day in mass media, schools, some institutions and so on.

Regards

#Curator-farmer in the activity of "The treasure Hunt".

Hi everyone! My name is Cristina and this week i'm the curator-farmer of the group "Los Umpalumpas".

This week we had to do an activity called "The treasure hunt" in which we had to find enough information to complete it and make it appropiately.  We had to search three different projections (Robinson, Mercator and Azimuthal), so it was a little heavy, since also we had to answer concrete questions about them. However, we divided the work and we could find a better way to answer them.

My experience as a curator-farmer has been terrific, because all my group members have looked for information and they have sent it me for complete the mindmap.

Besides, the references of this week are more than the last week, since we realised that it's better compare between different sources.

The mindmap with all the references that we used is the next:

#Star

Hello, my name is Mª Cruz and I’m the star of Umpalumpa’s group this week.
I’m going to compare the 3 projections into the following countries: Spain and Argentina.
Spain has 504.645 km² while Argentina has 2,766,890 km2. As we can see, Argentina has more extension than Spain.

Firstly we've got Robinson's projection.
This projection shows the whole world in a plan. It has a lot of advantages and disadvantages.
It is not consistent. Meridians are curved gently; however the poles are stretched in long lines.
It affects countries that are closer to the meridian and Ecuador, countries away Meridian expanded and countries near the centre remain the same.
Argentina is more stretched because of the poles, while Spain remains the same.

Secondly it is Mercator's projection:
In this projection, shapes of the continents are respected but sizes not.
This system of projection is called: ``content´´, angles formed as they are in the original figure.
It is an idealized model that treats the earth as an inflatable balloon that is inserted into a cylinder and is starting to "inflate" occupying the volume of the cylinder.
In this projection looks that Spain occupies more territory because Europe seem to be bigger than it is, when in fact Argentina is much bigger than Spain.

Finally we've got Azimuthal projection:
In azimuthal projection, shapes and angles are not respected. The sdistorsion of angels and areas grows with the farther from the center of the map.
This projection is a geographical projection characterized by a radial symmetry around the centre point.
This projection can see the earth from above. Spain looks very small and Argentina looks bigger.

During the realization of this task, there has been a debate about what projection could be the best for being used in a classroom.
Although all of the members of the group know that anyone represents exactly the reality, we finally reach the conclusion that one of the best projection for being used in a classroom is the theory of Robinson because we can see the whole world in a plan. This projection has more advantages than disadvantages. On the other hand the projection of Mercator is that we have studied at school and it is the most familiar for us but this projection have lot of disadvantages because it reinforces the idea of Europe as the center of the world, also we think that the projection of Azimuthal distorts the reality.

Now I'm going to talk about things that distors to the reality.
We have considered that one of the biggest media that distorts the reality is the television, in which we often found insufficient information or omission of this and the premeditated deformation of news that mislead.
To mitigate the effects in our classes that TV produces, we should educate children not to believe everything they see in it, and question the news, series or programs they see. We should ensure that they have a critical spirit and they compare and investigate information on the subject before believing what they see.
In addition, we in class, if we have to bring them a video, we should do what we ask for them, and look for one that is objective, clear and precise, one that we have contrasted previously.

So we have chosen as "distorting" television because their programs, series and documentaries often gets us to create a determined idea about some things. They always put sounds, photos, testimony that they want, etc, to get that we think as they want. To be more specific about what we have chosen, we have thought a TV program, Tierra Hostil en Colombia. In summary, in this program, talks about Colombia and only shows negatives aspects, giving way to that society creates that image is common in Colombia. Coincidentally home of one of the team members, working a Colombian girl and according to this the program does not show anything that has Colombia but only the negative.
These are the questions that we have posed to her:
Do you feel identified with the program?
How was your life there?
As we have seen before media isn't neutral and in our opinion this slogan is strongly related to this acitivity for media such as television manipulate people personality. In addition each TV channel has a different ideology and manipulates information to promote their ideology and thereby convince people of things that are not true.

Finally I'm going to name a sample online treasure hunt: U.S. Westward Expansion
Earliest settlers to the West often walked up to 2,000 miles barefoot, taking nearly six months to complete the journey. This online expedition, however, avoids typical traveling hardships of the past and blazes your trail back into the Old West, introducing you to diverse explorers and historic landmarks along the way.

Use the pre-screened Web sites in the "Resource Bank" to answer the following questions. We can see in the screen.

Some of these questions are:
- Describe Sacagawea's role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Link to "People in the West" at New Perspectives on the West.
- Illustrate how the relationship between Native American tribes and emigrant settlers changed over time. Discuss possible causes for this change. Look at "All About the Trail" in The Oregon Trail Web site.

Putting It All Together
Review the Treasure Hunt questions and your answers. What do you think were the successes and failures (if any) of U.S. westward expansion? What evidence can you give to support your statements?

Translator terms

Hello, I'm Mª Cruz and this week I am the translator, so I' ve collected the 5 most important terms that we have learned this week and I' m going to explain each concept with my own word based on “academic resources”. I hope that they will be helpful.

Resource:
A resource is a source or supply from which benefit is produced. It could be something that a country has and can use to increase its wealth, a supply of something ( such as money) that someone can used when it is needed, or a place or a thing that provides something useful.

Technological Content Knowledge (TCK)
It refers to the understanding of the teacher regarding to the importace of technology when they are teaching, how it can affect the performance of their students, because teachers not only need to know the material, also have a deep knowledge of how these technologies can influence the presentation of content.

Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK):
It consist on the transformation of topics that are going to be teached, making teachers give a particularly interpretation of the contents. To do it, the teacher have to adapt all his didactic resources and also keep the previous knowledge of the students, following the curriculum and the programming.

Technological Pedagogical knowledge (TPK):
It refers to how through technological or other tools used, teaching and learning can change. To make good use of this, we have to know the advantages and limitations of these technological tools to promote or limit some teaching strategies.

Mind map:
It is a diagram used to organize information, starting with an image in the center of a blank landscape page, in which we associate different ideas that are connected to the central concept and maybe between them.

Our poster, our exposition, our recommendations to you.

Hello, I'm Blanca, and this week I have been the journalist.

This week we have focused on working as hard as we could in the mural or poster presented a few days ago to our teacher and exposed by Maria to our peers.

The first idea we had to make the poster was to draw a sun on the cardboard background with some relief, later we thought about making the shape of the sun with cardboard and leave aside reliefs
(that was what we did at the end). The poster is based on an orange circle where we define the term TPACK and next to it we are capable of seeing some rays flowing into clouds where we put information about content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and technological knowledge.
The routine of this week has been working in the classroom, in some spare time, taking some afternoon in college and also debating in a friend's flat different options to improve our blog and our puntuacion slowly.

One of the blogs I'd like you to visit is http://www.powerteachers15.blogspot.com.es/ because of their order, clarity and originality .This blog belongs to some of our classmates; Rebeca, Anthea, María, etc.

Outside of the university, I would like to recommend you http://www.wikihow.com/Be-Organized-in-Middle-School I consider it to be a very well organized page, it is also very simple to understand for younger children.

Blanca.

My work as Curator-Farmer

Hi bloggers, My name is Yolanda, I am the Curator-Farmer this week , so my duty is to collect all the references that we have used to make our task on TPACK. For doing this mind map I have used the tool called ``Pearltrees´´.

Here, you can click in the following link to see the web page where we have done the pearltree.

The Star

Good afternoon, my name is Maria Navarro and this week I have been the star of this group. I don´t like so much this experience because I was so nervous in the exposition but I Know that I am going to improve. Then, I have added the information that I exposed last monday. As you can see, in the picture there is a sun that shows the importance of TPAC. There are twitter’s birds that are related with technology too. Also, there are clouds with information of TPACK and a “B” with the name of our blog, for following us if you want.

 • The sun is representing the concept of TPACK because it is the main word and the main concept of the work. It is a framework for teacher Knowledge for technology integration. It is integrated by: content, pedagogy and technology. The information is inside the sun.

• Content Knowledge is teacher´s Knowledge about the subject matter to be learned or thought. It includes: knowledge of concept, theories ideas, organizational frameworks, knowledge of evidence and proof. Teachers should understand the deeper knowledge fundamentals of the disciplines in which they teach. This information is in the right cloud.

• Pedagogical knowledge (PK) is teachers’ deep knowledge about the processes and practices or methods of teaching and learning. They encompass, among other things, overall educational purposes, values, and aims. Pedagogical knowledge requires an understanding of cognitive, social, and developmental theories of learning and how they apply to students in the classroom. The information is in left cloud.

• Technological knowledge. TPACK framework argues that fitness goes beyond traditional notions of computer literary to require that people understand information technology broadly enough to apply it at work and in their everyday lives productively. Progress in diverse fields has coincided with the development of the technologies that afford the representation and manipulation of date in a new fruitful ways. This information is in the cloud of the center.

The Facilitator

Hello I’m Manu, and this week I have been the facilitator. Now, I’m going to explain you which activity we have done and how we did it. As the facilitator, I have to divide the work, but I thought that all of us must know about what we were going to do. First, some people started doing the poster, because they were great with handicrafts. Others were searching in the internet information about TPACK. When some people had finished the poster and the others had found the information, all of us began to talk about what would be better to write on the poster for the exposition and what was the information about. Our work methodology is quite simple, we are a group, a team, and we work like this, and if someone has a problem, anyone in the group will help him/her. I think that in this way, all of people in the group feel integrated, and it helps us to work in a better way.

Analysis of the work of this week.

Hello, my name is Alba and I've been the analyst this week. It hasn't been easy but I have done an effort to do my best. This week we have worked with TPACK and here I'm going to post the analisys of this acitivity.

The best part of the activity has been to investigate and learn what is TPACK, and how to use it in  the educational field. On the other hand, the worst part of the activity has been to present the poster because it was the first time and we didn´t have much experience.

Secondly, the best moment of the week was meeting us to do the poster because we have learn to explain a concept trought mind maps and this help us to summarize and understand the most important things. The worse moment of the week has been expose the poster because of what I said before.Besides, we have learn the concept of TPACK and how we can use it in the future and it's something helpful for us when we be become teachers. We thought that for conserve the group, we have to follow helping each other and improving day by day and learn for our mistakes.

In our opinion this content is one of the most important for our degree because teach us how use a great teaching method for the future when we be teachers.

Finally, this content have an evident social conection because TPACK is a way to develop the educational sistem and it can improve the education in the countries where the educational system is poor.

The dynamic of this week.

This is our first week as journalists, facilitators or even as stars. Since it is our first week we don't know for sure if this is the right dynamic or we will have to change it; we hope we are on track, we have researched and we have worked hard so that we can give a good impression. We have met in order to decide the design of the blog, since the first impression is always important. We have also taken a look at those photos already handed out and discussed in class last week.
(Picture1) this photo, for instance, is one we have found really hard to figure out; we didn't know whether he was bald, or if he suffered from cancer, but after considering the options marked on the blackboard, we chose 'insolent' as the right option
(Picture2)the second picture take us less time than the first one, we were able to recognize the super high flats and the modern skyscraper so by that building we could say the appropiate word was 'future'
(Picture3) this one make us think more than the second but less than the first one, the first thing we thought in when we saw it was 'plans' and 'happiness' unluckily it was 'success'.
